Three Reasons to Hunt for Fossils With Your Children

Almost every child is infatuated with dinosaurs, but not many keep their passion until they reach adulthood. However, those lucky and loyal few who stayed true to their passion for dinosaurs ended up studying paleontology and becoming paleontologists and archaeologists. There are also fans who didn’t get degrees but have the passion for digging up fossilized remains of creatures of the past, such as the u dig trilobites story from 2003. Nevertheless, we should always put fossil hunting at the forefront of our minds as a fun activity that we can do with our children. Let’s check out the reasons below:

Dinosaur Fossil Excavation Site

You can make a makeshift dinosaur fossil excavation site with sand or a sandbox and hide plastic fossils of dinosaur bones that you can bury under the sands and leave clues out for your child to find. I’m sure your child will love it regardless of gender because dinosaur has global allure, especially in the hearts and minds of children. Children equipped with plastic scoops and other non-harmful digging tools will be able to enjoy the fun and thrill of digging for fossils at a seemingly real dinosaur fossil excavation site!

Dinosaur Fossil Brushing

Another cool activity that you can enjoy with your children is the brushing part after excavating the dinosaur fossils. You can prepare the bones and cover them in flour, chalk, or play dough that will ensemble specks of dust or granites from the Earth and brushes them off with a soft brush to unearth the fossilized bones inside the chunks. This will be a great opportunity for you to teach your child about being delicate, or even if you want to maximize the fun, you can use a hammer and let your child break away the chunks by hammering at them repeatedly!

Dinosaur Fossil Decorating

The last set of activities will be how you and your child spend quality time decorating the unearthed dinosaur fossils and making them into a work of art worthy of being displayed at a museum. You can let your child’s imagination roam free as they paint over the fake fossils and add pretty decorations as a way of letting their creativity take over and introduce them to modern art. Once they’ve finished, you can display it in a glass display case or hang it in the living room as a form of appreciation and a way to immortalize the beautiful bonding moment between you and your child!…

Here are five fun STEM activities which are appropriate for helping children learn early technical and human skills. As I read from an article at ThinkFun, it’s essential to keep your children learning science at home. Technology is a great tool for teaching and helping children. They see their mom, dad, and other family members using technology all the time, so they are naturally curious.

All of these actions are ones I had done with my children, some of which I did with students when I was a teacher. They can be used as summer or weekend activities or as ideas for lessons at home. I was motivated to create this scrapbook when schools were closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Either way, you can put together some wonderful family memories!

Create a Home Planetarium

If you have a projector at home, this instant action is a lot of fun. First, search the online store for the device you want to connect to the projector (phone, tablet, computer, etc.) for one of the many free help map packages on the market. Connect your device to the projector, and you’ll also be able to view the night sky and discover the planets in your home. I like doing this; it works well as a home planetarium. Eventually, if the kids remain curious, you might explore getting a telescope so they can see the whole world behind the Earth’s atmosphere.

Learn the Science of Cooking

In this tip, you can have children help prepare a meal. Measuring ingredients teaches math skills and the cooking process, giving them a chance to explain things like how the stove works (heat transfer to the pot) and how boiling water works. At the same time, you are probably equipping your children with a skill they will need for the rest of their lives. My spouse and I were the main cooks in the house until our daughter turned 13. My spouse and I have to cook after we love to cook!

Try to Block a Radio Signal

Now, what about learning about physics? If you have several family radios or walkie-talkies at home, you can try to figure out how to block a radio signal. You can give them the radios and then ask them to find a way to block the radio signal without breaking communication or removing the batteries from the radios. Have them write down what works and what doesn’t work when blocking the signal. You can try different variables in the process. If your children are struggling to find a cure, here are some tips. Build the radio or something very similar for it, or figure out how many partitions it takes to block a radio signal.
